I am sure all parents are happy that kids are back in school if it is grade school or high school. This is the time where the kids are settling into school projects and homework. Here are just a few thoughts to make sure your kids have all of the tools needed to be successful and productive when they do their school work. Do they have a good place to do their homework? Can they spread out the paperwork on a table if that is a dining room table or a desk in their room? Also ask them what area works out best for them to work and to concentrate to get their school work done.
There are some great organizing products at Target or Container Store that will help your kids keep school supplies organized and easy accessible for when they need scissors, paper, paper clips, post it notes, etc. Some kids love being in the center of the action with good light and others love to have a quite and secluded area to do their homework. Of course this depends on the age of the child but ask them what works out best for them because each child is different and what works for one may not work for the other.
Give your child a break after they come home from school so they can recharge before they start their homework. They may need a snack when they come home and then start homework or play some basketball outside to relax and then are ready to tackle the school assignments.
If you feel your child may not be getting the most out of their homework area or need some help with creating this work station, please don’t hesitate to contact me. Organization is a very important skill and if your kids learn that early in life, they will excel in everything they do!
